The Netflix queue is overflowing with old TV and foreign comedic one offs, and this little gem fell into my lap. Meryl Streep played Great Britain’s first female Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to perfection,. Streep portrayed the aging icon as she attempts to manage her decline in old age. Struggling with dementia and the unprocessed grief from her husband’s death, Streep provides a view into the life of the once powerful Conservative party leader. The filmmaker pieced together the past and her present seamlessly to give the viewer an almost fly on the wall perspective. This quasi-biography of Thatcher in the sunset of life is an interesting and enthralling watch.
There is much controversy about how she was portrayed in this film. I agree with some of the critics that it was unfair to Thatcher, but you be the judge.
