This was an interesting film, or shall I say adaptation of the children’s story of the same name, minus the subheading witch hunters. The star Jeremy Renner, who you may remember as Hawkeye from the Avenger film, provided an interesting take on Hansel.
This is not the Hansel and Gretel of your childhood. Some of the story holds true; they were put out in the woods and ended up in that house made of candy. They were able to fight back and burn the evil witch.
But everything after that is pretty much a Hollywood writer’s take on what would happen if Hansel and Gretel became this badass couple of bounty hunters. The rest of the film is about them chasing witches, killing them, collecting money, and returning children to their communities.
While this is not my genre, I have to say if you have 88 minutes and enjoy watching things get blown up or burned, then enjoy. If you are looking for the true story of Hansel and Gretel, don’t waste your time.
Not my cup of tea, but not the worst cup I’ve ever had.
