I’ve been writing my whole life for fun. Sometimes it’s more fun than others.
I’ve recently started seeking an agent for my first novel worth publishing. (We won’t talk about the virtual drawer bursting with practice novels.) I also write short stories, some of which are available on the internet, journal entries which sometimes become blog posts, notes to myself on post-its, and a junk journal full of other people’s quotes. Oh, and I like to read pretty much anything.
I write horror, fantasy, romance, and young adult. I love interesting characters in weird situations. I’m passionate about mental health and self-acceptance, so those themes tend to find their way into my stories.
I have a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling, and I’ve worked as a counselor for people with both mental health and substance abuse challenges. I also spent three fantastic years as a crisis counselor helping people struggling with suicidal or homicidal ideation. My internship was with a hospice, doing grief counseling with people who were dying and people who experienced a loss. These experiences have shaped my stories.
My favorite things in life are my dogs, reading, writing, and hiking. I love music and almost always have something playing, but it can range from the Rolling Stones to Taylor Swift, depending on my mood.
Here’s a relatively short but incomplete list of my favorite books:
All the Ugly and Wonderful Things, by Bryn Greenwood
Watership Down, by Richard Adams
Watchers, by Dean Koontz
Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen
Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Bronte

Where the Heart Is, by Billie Letts
The Forbidden Game trilogy, by LJ Smith
