This photo is both timely and appropriate. It’s a shot of a hallway in the now defunct Eastern State Penitentiary. If you’re ever in PA, either during Halloween or not, this place is great.
Thanks to last week’s photo challenge. (oops)

My husband is a big Battlestar Galactica fan, so when we went to Vancouver recently, we had to visit Simon Fraser University, where some scenes from the show were filmed. He did his geek thing, but I found plenty of inspiration, as it’s an old and interesting complex, filled with vegetation and all sorts of nifty details. This is a wall of plants that happened to fit this photo challenge very well.
Also in Vancouver, when we went to visit the Waterfall Building (also in Battlestar Galactica), there was this area not far from where we parked. We followed the obviously defunct railroad tracks to find a community garden planted on either side.
My horoscope sign is Leo, so my element is supposed to be fire, but I identify far more with water. As a teenager, fire and water were two of my favorite things to write bad poetry about. I love the sounds of the ocean, the smell, the taste. I love floating in it and swimming into the waves.

I can’t think of anything much more carefree than being on a cruise ship, and taking pictures of the sunset. Sounds pretty perfect to me. 🙂
Stay tuned if you really want to hear about my trip. I expect to have those posts ready to go next week.

I took this picture while hiking in that time just after the sun goes down but before dusk falls.

This one is coming at a perfect time for me. My parents just moved from my childhood home in PA to near me in AZ. I didn’t think too much about how I’d feel about them selling it, until they did. Not only did they move, but it’s under contract and probably going to sell soon. Yes, of course things have to change, and it’s a good thing that they’re here. I love living in AZ, though I do miss a lot of things about home. (Pennsylvania will always be home to me)
I love my new home… but it sure is a lot different!
Of course for a photo challenge called ” Companionable,” I’m going to post a picture of my dogs. They’re always at my side, and underfoot, and on my lap. Sometimes they annoy me, because I can’t even use the bathroom without them wanting to be with me, but really, I have to remind myself that they love me. They wait for me all day when I’m at work. How many of us have anyone else truly happy to see us when we get home, without any recrimination for how long we’re gone, just pure joy and gratitude? My puppies are my best friends, my anti-depressants, and my guardians.
I love any type of graffiti (other than gang tags… obviously). I love it when people put stickers or posters on posts or signs. When we were in Vegas, my friend wanted to go see the Pawn Stars Pawn shop, and while we waited in line, the back of this sign caught my eye.
I have this weird little quirk… I love taking pictures of paths. I can only imagine that it comes from the part of me that likes to wonder what’s going to be revealed… in stories, movies, and in life. Paths are the ultimate symbolism of that. You can choose to go back and see what you’ve already seen, stand still and the scenery doesn’t change, or you can go forward, and maybe see more of the same, but maybe new stuff will be revealed… it’s all part of the journey.
I took this photo recently in Puerto Rico while walking in the rainforest. I loved the cracked path in the middle of all the lush green.
